Title: Health Science Vocational Teacher
Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum of 3 years as a classroom teacher preferred
- Valid Mississippi Teaching Certificate with Vocational Health Occupation or
Health Science Technology
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN); CPR certified–Life Saver-Instructor Level;
First Aid certified
Reports To: Director of Vocational Department
Job Goal: To supervise vocational students and to plan appropriate curriculum programs
Mission and Goals
- Works with the Superintendent and those whom he/she supervises to articulate and promote the school system’s vision of learning and teaching
- Monitors and evaluates progress toward accomplishment of system goals and objectives
- Uses student data to identify program needs
- Develops goals, objectives, programs, and operations that are consistent with school system vision, mission, and goals
- Ensures that unit and program plans are consistent with the system’s strategic plan
- Organizes daily, monthly, and yearly schedules to facilitate learning and teaching in the schools
- Communicates high expectations of students, staff, and parents/guardians
- Creates, identifies, encourages, and supports innovative ideas that in turn support learning and teaching in the schools
General Responsibilities
- Identifies and categorizes special populations students who are enrolled in vocational programs
- Provides individual or small group tutoring in academic course work for special populations vocational students so they may succeed in the vocational program
- Provides for appropriate vocational assessment of interests, abilities, and special needs of special populations students with respect to successfully completing a vocational education program
- Ensures LEP students enrolled in vocational programs have been identified and services provided
- Develops and maintains a file on the local program of work
- Ensures that special populations students are provided with supplemental service
Vocational Education
- Develops and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements in student learning styles
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and
equipment that reflects understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
- Conducts assessment of student learning styles and uses results to plan instructional
activities
- Develops partnership(s) with local hospital(s) to create a clinical rotation program for
students to explore career opportunities in the medical field
- Works cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for
special education student according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans
(IEP)
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Creates classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical,
- social and emotional development of students
- Manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Establishes and maintains openness of communication by conducting conferences with
parents, students, principals and teachers
- Performs any other tasks as required by the Superintendent of Education, the Deputy Superintendent, the designee of the Superintendent, and the Supervising High School Principal
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month year (187). The salary established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
