Per diem employees may work 0-16 hours per week.

Temporary employees may be assigned to work up to 40 hours per week.

Position Description

Acts as receptionist, patient flow facilitator and communication coordinator for the Unit. Coordinates the health care support for the patients.

Major Responsibilities

• Greets all patients, family members, vendors and visitors in person and by phone. Determines the nature of their business, and directs them appropriately
• Creates and maintains electronic medical charts for all incoming patients and processes admission, discharge and transfer data into the computer
• Manage, maintain and troubleshoot schedules, may include follow up appointments for patients before discharge
• Maintains the nursing station and other areas in the unit in optimum working condition with supplies, forms, etc.
• Responsible for quality improvement at the nursing station
• Acts as an assistant to the providers, managing phone calls and assisting with the facilitation of patient information and provider processes
• Maintains department files, records, forms, documents and policies. Provides data and reports as needed
• Mail processing
• Retrieves patients' previous medical records
• Requests records from other facilities as directed by Physician

Education and/or Experience

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required
• Unit secretary course completion preferred
• Nursing Assistant Certified or program completion preferred
• Previous work experience in a hospital setting as a unit secretary experience is preferred
