Healthcare Documentation & Coding Specialist
We are looking for a detail-oriented Healthcare Documentation & Coding Specialist to join our client’s team. In this role, you will ensure the accurate review and coding of clinical information from medical records using the ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. Your expertise will play a vital role in maintaining compliance with federal regulations and payer policies, ensuring hospitals or clinics receive proper reimbursement. You’ll work closely with healthcare providers and staff to address discrepancies and maintain the highest level of coding accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and Analyze Medical Records:
- Thoroughly evaluate patient records to ensure precise assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes.
- Identify and abstract key information from medical records, including physician notes, lab results, and imaging reports, for accurate coding.
Assign Accurate Codes:
- Apply ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures according to coding guidelines.
- Utilize coding principles to ensure the correct classification of patient encounters.
Ensure Compliance:
- Adhere to legal and ethical standards set by regulatory bodies and coding organizations.
- Regularly review coding practices to ensure they meet federal regulations and payer policies.
Collaborate with Healthcare Providers:
- Communicate effectively with physicians and healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses and procedures as needed.
- Provide feedback and education to enhance provider documentation and support accurate coding.
Optimize Reimbursement:
- Play a key role in ensuring proper reimbursement by accurately coding all diagnoses and procedures.
- Participate in audits and reviews to identify opportunities for coding improvements and optimize the revenue cycle.
Maintain Coding Knowledge:
- Stay informed about changes in coding standards, federal regulations, and payer requirements.
- Engage in ongoing education and training sessions as required.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably within a healthcare facility or medical billing environment.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, billing professionals, and insurance companies.
- Thorough understanding of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation:
- Salary: $25-28/hr, dependent on experience.
- Location: Remote opportunity available; must be located near Oklahoma City.
