Austal USA AT works at the forefront to invent, mature, and implement advanced maritime technologies which enhance operational capacities and improve readiness of our defense systems. Austal USA AT operates a technology hub in Charlottesville VA which works to bring cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to scale and also oversees operation of the U.S. Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM COE) located in Danville, VA. The mission of the AM COE is to operationalize additive manufacturing in the submarine industrial base and provide emergent request support to sustain our Nation’s fleet.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing heat treatment programs, ensuring accurate data is recorded during the process, and providing observed quality evidence reports.
- Loading/unloading furnace(s) with parts according to production schedules.
- Recommending heat treatment recipes to bring a part to target/objective mechanical properties from the as-built product.
- Responsible for daily furnace upkeep and all preventative maintenance activities, ensuring they are properly conducted and on schedule.
- Ability to perform basic systems troubleshooting.
- Developing standard operating procedures for heat treatment operations.
- Monitor and validate lessons learned processes and initiatives to maintain and promote continuous improvement.
- Additional activities directed by the Operations Manager or delegate.
- Adhere to all site and company rules, regulations, PPE requirements, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s Degree required with 3 to 5 years of related experience
- 5 to 8 years related experience accepted in lieu of Associate’s Degree with High school diploma or equivalent.
- Related experience is defined as having experience with heat treatment processing of parts in a production or industrial setting.
- Experience with industrial mechanical and electrical operations.
- Ability to develop heat treatment recipes based on contract requirements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Experience drafting reports and organizing data.
- Ability to validate, interpret and understand basic task scheduling or work sequencing.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated but also value interacting with personnel, customers and subcontractors.
- Experience in a quality system as an inspector or technician preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in elevated work areas that require climbing.

- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
