This excavating and construction position earns a competitive wage of $24.00-$28.00 per hour, depending on experience. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you have the important job of preparing sites for demolition, excavating, and construction. You start each shift by fueling and inspecting vehicles, checking to make sure they're in good condition. Then you load up the necessary tools and equipment and haul them to the job site. Using heavy machinery such as backhoes and excavators, you dig holes and trenches required for structural concrete. You enjoy the variety of projects each day brings, and you carefully follow directions as you prep areas that will become parking lots, sidewalks, loading docks, and driveways.
Some days, you work on prepping sites for roads, bridges, and railroads. You work well as part of a team, and you remain alert to ensure the safety of your crew as you operate bulldozers, front-end loaders, and grade tractors. Your mechanical skills come in handy when performing routine maintenance and minor repairs. You get a thrill out of operating powerful machinery, and you take pride in safely and skillfully completing each job!
QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation
- Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades
- Excellent mechanical skills
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
Vocational school training or a completed apprenticeship is preferred but not required. Are you reliable with a great work ethic?
