Austin Underground Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic/ Supervisor responsible for managing the shop and the shop team, maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment and company vehicles.
Located in Jonestown, on the north shore of Lake Travis, Austin Underground Inc. builds Water, Waste-water, Storm Sewer and Duct bank utilities in existing roadways, and always look for projects that have some degree of difficulty. When other companies back away from a construction project, Austin Underground Inc. will be at the front of the line seeking the business.
We are experts in the area of complicated and difficult construction projects from utility to roadway repairs in municipal and commercial environments.
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic/ Supervisor is the one of the driving forces behind making Austin Underground Inc. successful.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Supervise and lead shop mechanics.
- Diagnose, service, and repair various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, hydraulics, air brake systems, transmissions, computer controlled automatic and manual transmission, high voltage generators, etc.
- Troubleshooting and preforming computer diagnostics from original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and aftermarket providers.
- Test the part or equipment and perform quality check after work is complete.
- Keeping inventory of equipment, vehicle performance, supplies and materials
- Prepares work orders and cost materials estimates.
- Ensure labor, material, subcontractors, and equipment cost control for all projects.
- Establish and coordinate overall project schedule.
- Ensure accurate completion and updating of all required maintenance and repair logs.
- Assume responsibility for providing a safe work environment, as well as complying with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to junior mechanics and helpers
- Ability to perform maintenance and repairs in the field when necessary
Candidate Qualifications:
- 5 years in heavy equipment mechanic repair.
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance, diagnosing and repairing diesel trucks including engine overhaul and hydraulics
- Supervisory and leadership experience
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, excellent customer service skills, and a can do attitude
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- High work ethic with ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Leads by example and follows Mutual Respect Policy, what Austin Underground Inc. calls our Muy Bien Policy
- Valid driver's license
- ASE Truck series Certified or Diesel Tech degree a plus
- Ability to lift/carry objects of up to 50 pounds
- Ability to walk, crouch, climb stairs, talk and hear
- Ability to climb heavy equipment, and bend, kneel and work with arms raised for prolonged periods
- Must have average dexterity to use arms, hands and fingers to handle, feel and reach
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
