The Henry Ford Health System’s Lifestyle, Integrative, Functional Medicine Department is seeking a board-certified Functional Medicine Physician with board certification in Family or Internal Medicine.
We are seeking a responsible, caring, innovative and motivated Physician (DO/MD) who is passionate about learning and committed to advancing our clinical practice. This role requires Functional Medicine work experience, minimum of 3 years, and skills and knowledge in developing a comprehensive approach to understanding and addressing the underlying causes of patient health concerns and disease prevention. Although not required upon application, completing the Lifestyle Medicine Certification through the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, is an expectation within 2 years of hire. This role requires mentoring and supporting residents and medical students that rotate through our department. This is a hybrid position with both virtual and in-person visits.
Department Overview:
Henry Ford Health Functional Medicine is at the forefront of redefining healthcare through innovative evidence-based medical care that focuses on wellness, disease prevention, and reduction of systemic inflammation driving chronic disease or cancer. Our care is widely accessible to all ages and demographics as we are an insurance-based practice. Our Functional Medicine team of physicians, advanced practice providers, registered dietitian, and support staff are dedicated to a patient-centered approach, guiding our patients towards vitality and optimal healthspan. Our team members also have additional certification in Lifestyle Medicine which is deeply embedded in comprehensive care plans, and we coach patients that food is medicine with emphasis on eating a plant predominate diet.
Our department is unique, as we provide to our patients a full gamut of services including acupuncture with general and specialty areas in sports medicine and oncology. We also provide massage and Chiropractic services with general, and specialty focus on sports medicine, women’s health, pain management, and mental health.
Qualifications:
- Board Certified (MD/DO) In family or internal medicine, with 3+ years of clinical experience
- Board Certification in Functional Medicine (IFM, A4M, MMI)
- Functional Medicine work experience preferred minimum of 3 years
- Lifestyle Medicine Board Certification Strongly preferred (American College of Lifestyle Medicine, American Board of Lifestyle Medicine)
- Strong understanding of health benefits of whole food plant-based nutrition
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Commitment to participation in appropriate professional leadership/management education
- Building a patient-focused Functional Medicine Practice
- Building an internal and external referral network
- Working closely with the Medical Director and Group Practice Director in clinical program strategic development, operations, and implementation
- Working closely with team members to optimize the patient care experience, documentation, diagnostic testing options, and nutraceutical therapeutics
- Providing clinical support for shared medical visits
- Providing patient education grounded in evidence-based Lifestyle and Functional Medicine practices to support patient healthy behaviors and lifestyle changes
- Skills in taking extensive patient histories and creating comprehensive integrated treatment plans, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests, interpreting patient data, providing significant patient education and health coaching, and knowledge of plant-based nutrition
- Providing Lifestyle and Functional Medicine education to medical staff, residents, and students
- Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills needed for interacting with physicians and non-physician staff
- Experienced speaker who is passionate about their work

- Work closely with the Medical Director in clinical program development and implementation
- Work closely with team members to optimize the patient care experience
- Oversee mid-level medical staff as assigned, as well as nursing and MA clinical staff; assign appropriate aspects of care to non-physician staff
- Documentation, diagnostic testing options, and nutraceutical therapeutics
- Educate patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection by providing materials and resources to patients and families
- Providing education to support patient groups aimed at supporting health behaviors and lifestyle changes
