About the Job
As a High Performance Computing (HPC) Technical Consultant, you will need to assess, understand and execute against customer requirements for their HPC workloads. You will be coordinating with the Microsoft internal team to capture the customer's business objectives and desired outcomes related to their HPC workload(s), properly scoping and delivering the associated technical services to achieve those outcomes. Typical scenarios could be assisting a customer to extend their current on-premise HPC environment into Azure in order to augment capacity and accommodate net new workloads or assisting the customer in transitioning their on-premise HPC environment, in whole or in part, to Azure.? This might entail building out proofs-of-concept to demonstrate the capabilities of Azure in meeting customer needs.

**Responsibilities**
Primary
+ Provides pre/post-sales technical assistance to HPC users (often research scientists and Microsoft Partners on Azure HPC infrastructure.Assistcustomer HPC admins and architects with requirements definition, solution ideation, solutiondesign, and Proof of Concept through production implementation.
+ Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code and/or architecture to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI) for a customer's Azure HPC investment.
+ Works internally with Azure HPC Engineering teams and Global Black Belt teams to stay current on the latest product offerings and future roadmap for Azure HPC.
+ Maintain and develop a positive, ongoing, trusted advisory relationship with users of Azure HPC within the Federal agencies.
Secondary
+ Provides experience during pre/post-sales efforts, as needed, to gather HPC user requirements and set up HPC proofs of concept.
+ Influence the HPC Go-to-Market strategy by providing feedback to sales, marketing, and engineering on product features that would improve the customer experience.

**Qualifications**
**Required/Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Business, or related field AND 3+ years leadership experience in relevant area of business
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Shell, PowerShell, Python, CUDA.
+ 3+ years industry HPC experience, with a focus on running HPC jobs for at least one of the following academic areas of scientific computing - Healthcare & Life Sciences, Earth & Planetary Sciences (including climate modeling & weather forecasting), Materials Science, Computational Chemistry, and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
**Other Qualifications**
Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.
This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under U.S. export control regulations, potentially under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations or the Export Administration Regulations.? As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.
Cloud Screening: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master's or PhD in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related technical discipline
+ 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Shell, PowerShell, Python, CUDA
+ 5+ years industry HPC experience, with a focus on running HPC jobs for at least one of the following academic areas of scientific computing - Healthcare & Life Sciences, Earth & Planetary Sciences (including climate modeling & weather forecasting), Materials Science, Computational Chemistry, and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
+ Significant experience in infrastructure architecture and networking. Experience working with end user or developer communities. Experience running HPC workloads on Microsoft Azure. Experience deploying, tuning, and managing HPC technologies in a multi-user environment.?Experience with hardware acceleration technologies such as FPGA and GPU.
+ Ability to establish credibility with academic researchers running scientific computing workflows. High level understanding of the underlying infrastructure platform and resources needed to run HPC services. Proven ability to understand HPC user requirements and map these to Azure HPC solutions. Ability to deploy, configure and manage compute clusters (Linux and Windows).
+ Experience managing/architecting/running Linux-based HPC workloads on an HPC platform that uses Slurm, PBS Pro, Grid Engine, LSF, or other scheduling middleware.
+ Technical knowledge of Microsoft Azure is not required, but the candidate needs to reach Azure technical competency within 6 months.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Security Clearance.
Technology Consulting IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $97,800 - $189,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $123,200 - $199,400 per year.
