Description: Performs accounting and administrative functions under the immediate supervision of the County Engineer
Salary: $40,000 - $50,000
General Duties:
- Oversees payroll, and handles accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory control functions and monitors related revenues and expense classifications
- Maintains budget for all Roads and Bridges funds to include billing, revenue, state and federal reporting etc. for all Departmental functions
- Responsible for Motor Fuel funds, accounts, reporting, audits to include ( 19) Road Districts
- Maintains various cost ledgers, cash journals, accounting registers and other financial records and prepares for review revenue and/or expense estimates, budgets and financial reports
- Performs the duties of purchasing agent by determining current prices of needed items, preparing purchase orders and related files and ordering materials for Maintenance Department and Road Districts
- Directs the activities of the County Highway Department’s clerical staff
- Reviews contracts/agreements and resolutions for construction projects
- Maintains contract files in Financial system
- Prepares account reports for Transportation Committee
- Responsible for setting up building maintenance and repairs
- Works closely with Assistant Co Engineer and Design & Construction Engineers to ensure proper contract billing, reporting and project close out
- Performs other duties as assigned by the County Engineer
Job Requirements:
Position Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
Candidate with a C.P.A. will be given additional review points
Requires at least four (4) years of accounting work experience
Knowledge of Word and Excel & the ability to adapt to financial and project accounting systems
Requires the ability to comprehend the complexities of fund accounting
Familiarity with State of Illinois’ GATA Grant Management procedures will be given additional review points
