Departmental representative for handling and releasing of complex patient information in compliance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines for CNM Hospital and PMG. Acts as the primary contact for handling subpoenas and court orders. Contact person for patients, physicians, attorneys and other public inquiries concerning clinical information; processes such inquiries and releases information accordingly. Successfully supports heavy public interaction while maintaining good customer relations. Complies, processes and maintains medical records of CNM including hospital and PMG patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal and regulatory requirements of the health care system. Process, maintain, compile, and report patient information for health requirements and standards. Ensures patient confidentiality and excellent customer service standards are maintained. Assists in supporting, training, and orienting of staff; model expected performance levels and appropriate behaviors and facilitate employee work performance through adequate support and training.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: Previous legal experience, working with risk management, required to have three years of experience working in Health Information Management within healthcare setting is required.
Qualifications:- High school graduate or equivalent is required. Associates degree or 2-3 years college level courses required or relevant experience in lieu of degree may be substituted in accordance with organizational procedures.
- Three years of experience working in Health Information Management within healthcare setting is required, preferably in acute care hospital environment.
- Specialized training in HIPAA Compliance and Release of Information required. Bi-lingual preferred.
- Responsible for maintaining the security, confidentiality, completeness and accuracy of the medical record in accordance with HIM Policies and Procedures.
- Coordinates and facilitates special audit requests.
- Processes high level information for internal and external customers while following Federal, State and HIPAA guidelines. Safeguards confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records. Assures compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of medical records as well as PHS policies and procedures pertaining to medical records.
- Supports development, coordination, and administration of systems for risk identification.
- Assists in production and revision of medical records related policies and procedures. Serves as the legal custodian of records for CNM Hospital and PMG Health Information Management.
- Process appropriate documents pertaining to affidavits, subpoenas, and depositions from attorneys or a court of law and acts on behalf of CNM Hospital and PMG.
- Analyze all CNM Hospital and PMG medical records for completion prior to releasing or allowing for a review.
- Interacts with internal and external customers in processing requests, reviews, amendments to medical records and other special requests while maintaining high customer relations.
- Communicates effectively and professionally through multi-telephone lines, fax, written communication and in person.
- Interacts with Presbyterians Risk Management, Compliance, Legal and Patient Relation departments as well as with all other healthcare and regulatory agencies.
- Appears in court proceeding as needed for purposes of certifying and authenticating medical records for CNM HIM.
- Must be able to function with minimal supervision and provide training for other staff.
