About the Job
The Medical Records Technician:
- Retrieves charts from nursing units as needed. Accounts for all discharges and searches for missing charts.
- Preps and scans medical records and performs QC and Validation on scanned records to assure highest quality of legibility and accuracy.
- Maintains queues in WQM, assuring they are completed daily and sent to scheduling in a timely and accurate manner.
- Meets or exceeds productivity goals in areas assigned, Locates and delivers medical records to requesters in the Emergency Department and nursing units as needed.
- Provides records for hospital departments, hospitals and state/federal agencies as needed.
- Serves as relief team leader for 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift as needed.
- Assigns extra duties to employees who run out of work or have idle time.
- Oversees processes and reports back to supervisor.
- Trains new employees, students and volunteers as needed.
- Helps with record destruction as needed.
- Analyzes charts and assigns deficiencies in 1Chart. Performs audits of 1Chart Queues.
- Answers phones within the department after 3 rings.
- Enters codes for billing into HDM System.
Education
HS/GED required.
Experience
Minimum of two-year clerical experience required. Medical Records or medical office experience preferred with experience with an EMR.
Additional Skills/Abilities
Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to use computer with speed and accuracy, word processor and spreadsheet software, fax machine, and copy machine.
