We currently have an exciting career opportunity available to join the HKS team as a Maintenance Mechanic in our Hempstead location.
SUMMARY
Responsible for the execution of HKS’s Mission, goals and objectives through providing maintenance services to consumers, staff and visitors of HKSB in the Hempstead, Islandia, Wantagh IRA Facility .
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
+ Determines regular inspections regarding the maintenance and repair work necessary to maintain the structure, furnishings and systems.
+ Plans sequence of repairs and maintenance following accepted trade practices. Advises supervisor of any unsafe or hazardous conditions.
+ Performs electrical projects such as maintain and repair electrical starters, motors, breakers and
+ switchgear. Installs electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment. Tasks include changing light bulbs,
+ switches, receptacles and fuses. Maintains fire alarm and nurse call systems. Demonstrates ability
+ with hand-tools and testing devices. Maintains and repairs small motors and equipment.
+ Performs duties necessary to install, maintain, repair, build and replace partitions, studs, walls, ceilings, windows, doors, door closures and locks, floors, shelves, wall coverings, dividers, furniture, desks, bookcases, tables, credenzas and wall hangings.
+ Must have a working knowledge of building materials consisting of, but not limited to: wood, glass, plastics, metal, sheetrock, plaster, ceramic tiles, acoustic tile, wall coverings, floor coverings, plastic laminates and cement.
+ Keeps supervisor advised of tools or supplies necessary for routine or specific maintenance or repairs. This will include a spare parts and supplies inventory to be carried out as directed by the supervisor.
+ Advises on the acceptability of work performed by outside contractors, or any unsafe hazard that may develop from their work.
+ Responsible for snow removal as directed.
+ Responsible for other duties as may be assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor and/or the Director of the Department.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Some technical school preferred. Experience in any of the building trades e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
