HNFAS STRANDING LABORATORY ASSISTANT - ID# 224666.

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences (HNFAS), UH Health and Stranding Lab, located at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), on the island of Oahu. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
HOURLY RATE: $18.28 - $19.00/Hr.
DUTIES: Participates in a variety of activities associated with the Univeristy of Hawai?i (UH), Health and Stranding Lab facility spaces at Marine Corps Base Hawai?i (MCBH). Collects biological samples using common household mechanical and manual tools. Conducts weighing and labeling of biological samples. Assists in maintaining electronic inventories of biological samples. Assists with maintenance and care of project vehicles, equipment and tools. Assists with general laboratory maintenance and cleaning including washing of laboratory glassware and sterilization of tools and equipment. Conducts lawn maintenance at the UH Health and Stranding Lab facility spaces at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH).
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
EXPERIENCE Up to one (0-1) year of experience working with biological samples.
KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of calculating weight using a scale. Familiarity with biological sample collection.
ABILITIES and SKILLS Basic oral and written communication skills with a willingness to learn. Ability to work well with others. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Laboratory Safety training within first month from date of hire.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS Ability to work indoors in a lab setting as well as outdoors in hot and sunny conditions. Duties require long periods of repetitive work in weighing of biological samples. Must be able to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
