Hose Technician
I. FUNCTIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Purpose
To improve and facilitate the manufacture of Hose, Pipe and Gasket products offered by United Central Industrial Supply Co. LLC., throughout its organization.
Primary Functions
-Serve as an intermediary between sales and production personnel, providing technical assistance designed to promote product knowledge and to facilitate the overall sales process.
-Work with existing and new customers, learn their end-use product requirements and provide/suggest innovative technical solutions to individual customer problems.
-Develop technical solutions to product manufacturing issues. Improve and streamline the hose and gasket manufacturing process. Evaluate new tools in the manufacture of said products. Improve the current utilization of current tools/equipment, to include programming improvements of computer-controlled devices.
-Facilitate the repair and ongoing maintenance of current equipment.
-Work with Inventory Control regarding stock levels, obsolete inventory, etc.
Additional Functions
-Oversee employees engaged in the manufacturing process. Recruit/interview/hire employees as appropriate in order to meet customer demands. Evaluate individual employee's job performance and provide constructive feedback as necessary.
-Work with purchasing and management on the selection and purchase of equipment necessary to facilitate or improve the manufacturing process.
-Train employees in the assembly/manufacture of products sold by UC. Consult with other branches in the training requirements of their employees. Prepare training documents and manufacturing/assembly procedures manuals for use throughout UC.
-Attend and participate in company meetings, industry conferences and conventions as requested by management
-Visit customer sites when necessary to troubleshoot problems and evaluate customer needs.
Required Equipment
-Company Computer System
-Standard Office Equipment
-Specialized equipment used in the manufacture of hose, pipe and gasket assemblies marketed and sold by UC.
-Standard vehicles not requiring special licenses
Minimum Required Qualifications
-College degree (technical-related field preferred) or equivalent experience.
-Intimate understanding of the hose/pipe/gasket business and the specialized/technical equipment used to assemble/manufacture said products.
-Specific knowledge and expertise with the specific product groups.
-Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
Required Communication
-Communicate verbally and in writing to management, customers and company employees through presentations and reports. Report monthly to the Branch Manager on productivity, technical and equipment issues and activities (training, customer calls, surveys, etc.).
II. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Demands
-Requires extended periods of sitting and standing.
-Be able to lift varying weights up to fifty pounds and carry a distance of twenty yards.
-Work as necessary in a shop environment with varying environmental extremes.
Working Environment
-Work in both an office environment utilizing standard office equipment and a shop environment with merchandise in various stages of assembly.
-Work in varying temperatures according to seasonal changes.
-Accompany customers/venders to work locations in effort to troubleshoot problems and/or promote specific products for sale.
Safety Requirements
-Responsible to follow company safety policies designed to prevent accidents and promote employee health.
-It is required to report all accidents to the supervisor according to company policy.
Possible Work Hazards
-Work around fast-paced shop environment where manufacturing processes are constantly in progress, and people and product move as dictated by the work flow.
-Frequently work around equipment with moving parts.
-In any industrial setting there is a constant need to be aware of a consistently changing environment.
-Visit customer sites where employee may be subject to hazards peculiar to that location.
III. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Schedules
-Scheduling will be determined based on company and customer requirements. Schedules will normally be set by the Branch Manager.
-Normal work hours are 8 AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday, weekends as required.
- All employees are expected to work the necessary hours required to meet or exceed company goals.
Accountabilities
-Accountable for the results of the branch action plan as it pertains to the specific product group – sales, gross margin, inventory turns, obsolete or slow moving inventory, etc.
-Accountability for maintaining confidentiality concerning sales, pricing policies, manufacturing procedures, customer lists, and any other information which might be harmful to the company, customers or other employees if revealed.
