About the Job
The Hospital Pharmacist fills prescriptions for patients admitted to the hospital. The duties include but are not limited to preparing medicines, stocking supplies, and collecting patient information. The Hospital Pharmacy Technician create compound medications, IV fluids, and other mixtures for patients. This position will also float to the long-term care facility to help with the resident's pharmacy needs. The shift for this position is a few days a week and every other weekend from 8:30 am to 12pm.
Hospital Responsibilities:
Enter, fill, check inpatient orders (checking allergies, labs, etc.)
Charge and restock floors with floor stock medications via Omnicell
Charge for surgery, anesthesia, respiratory and narcotic drugs
Maintain inventory of drugs
Perform audit on narcotic drugs
Obtain drug information for the physicians and nurses as required
Monitor each patient during their stay in the hospital
Perform drug profiling for each patient
Speaking with physicians and nurses about the condition of the patient re: meds
Therapeutic interchanges/conversions
Recommending appropriate drug therapy for a patient
Making IVs
Performing DUEs on drug usage
Watching use of antibiotics and resistance
Filling surgery and anesthesia boxes
Preparing nuclear medicine diagnostic testing medications
Make recommendations for streamlining pharmacy (keeping up with current trends in hospital pharmacy)
Speaking with drug reps about products
Talking with patients about their medications prior to discharge (discharge med counseling)
High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
Register Pharmacy Technician certification.
Familiarity with medical terminology is required.
Computer skills are required.
Hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred.
Clerical and mathematical skills are required.
Organization and time management skills are required.
Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
Strong customer service skills are required.
Punctuality and dependability are required. Willingness to carry out specific projects or responsibilities assigned by the pharmacy manager is required.
