Title: Host / Busser
Reports To: Assistant Manager and General Manager
Summary of Position:
Welcome and warmly greet guests on arrival. Manage the efficient and timely seating of our guests to a table that best serves their wishes. Assist service staff. Remove used tableware between courses; clear and reset tables after guests leave and provide refills as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Warmly and graciously greet all guests as soon as they arrive.
- When possible, open the front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant.
- When immediate seating is limited, record guest names and number of people in party.
- Call out name and number of party when tables become available.
- Provide guests with estimated waiting time.
- Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible.
- Seat guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations.
- Upon seating, offer guests a menu and inform them of their server’s name. Inspect table for proper presentation and completeness. If the server is not nearby, notify them that guests have been seated in their section.
- Provide attentive and friendly service to any customer who needs attention. This means to be alert and looking for opportunities to serve.
- Answer the phone in a courteous and helpful manner and correctly answer any questions that a customer asks. It is absolutely necessary that the host not only know our policies on reservations and catering but also understands our volume patterns so they can help customers make decisions about dining at the Bristol.
- Assist in keeping the dining room and other assigned areas clean. Make sure entrances, doors and windows are clean. Check the restrooms at least every ½ hour.
- Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed.
- Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
- Set up all assigned service areas at the beginning of each shift and keep stations neat, clean and properly stocked.
- Clear tables after guests.
- Take soiled tableware to dish area and unload, sort and stack silverware, dishes, glassware, etc. in designated areas in the soiled dish drop off area.
- Between seatings promptly clean table tops, chairs and booths. Check floor and clean as required. Reset and arrange tabletop.
- Respond appropriately to guest requests. Communicate guest requests to server and/or manager as needed.
- Assist server as needed with food delivery, especially with large parties and during peak periods.
- Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
Qualifications:
- No previous restaurant experience required.
- Be able to working in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the predominant language(s) of our guests.
- Must have exceptional grooming habits.
- Have working knowledge of the predominant language of our guests.
- Be able to lift, reach, bend and stoop.
- Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver tables and trays of food frequently weighing up to 30 pounds.
