WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The ideal Chief Engineer is a highly responsible professional focused on delivering exceptional service to their team and guests while ensuing The Hotel operates at a premium level of efficiency. The Chief Engineer will be able to lead, develop and manage their team effectively while ensuring preparedness for future challenges. The Chief Engineer manages key activities including capital projects and develops and maintains close working relationships with all required vendors and partners, including SMC corporate teams, to efficiently complete projects as required.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
* Be responsible for performance of Service Team
* Review and monitor all time by means of time cards, supplement logs, punch out sheets, service requests and on-call logs
* Provide complete support to the Hotel Manager in upholding property and corporation standards, policies and procedures
* Keep up-to-date and accurate logs and scheduling of preventative maintenance
* Removal of snow and maintenance of ice management when applicable
* Carry all equipment (i.e. keys, phone, pager, tools, radio) in order to maintain preparedness to carry out work tasks at all times
* Ensure service team members attend required training and assist in on-going training on site
* Self-seek and participate in on-going training/education
* Schedule, conduct and document regular department and safety meetings with service team members
* Evaluate service team members on a regular basis for positive and negative behavior
* Perform team member discussion, warnings notices and performance appraisals with counseling and coaching goals, using the appropriate forms on documentation
* Brief new service team members on procedures, goals and property news
* Instruct team members on maintenance etiquette and guest service
* Check all service team members tools regularly for safe working conditions, ensure uniform appearance is in accordance with SMC dress code policy
* Schedule and manage appropriate contracts
* Ensure pool and surrounding area is maintained to property standards
* Ensure parking garage/areas are maintained to property standards
* Assist in preparation of long range planning and make budget recommendations
* Ensure punch out work is completed in accordance with Southern Management policies, standards and punch out sheets
* Maintain shop, company equipment, ample supplies, inventory control and ensure key security
* Watch for unauthorized vehicles or suspicious persons on the property and report to proper authority
* Maintain fire extinguishers, sprinklers and standpipe systems
* Perform all hands-on maintenance as needed and to further team members abilities and knowledge
* Understand and perform all job duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Engineer when necessary, to include on-call coverage
* Prepared to respond and act in emergency situations, following corporate/property emergency procedures
* Assist in all department related audits (Safety, Physical Asset, etc.) and ensure all marked items are resolved
* Acknowledge all guests and respond promptly to their needs, however busy and whatever time of day. Ensure unresolved incidents are reported to Manager/Supervisor
* Familiarity with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately
* Contribute to the team's success by accomplishing tasks and assisting with projects as needed
* Maintain knowledge and compliance with departmental policies, service procedures, and standards
* Availability during peak operating times, i.e.: Weekends, Holidays and Special Events
* Work as a team member to ensure our guests have the best possible experience
* Understand company's emergency procedures and be able to apply them when necessary
* Report any incidents, property damage or injuries immediately to Manager/Supervisor
* Attend department meetings and training sessions as necessary
* Effectively manage staff through respectful communication, clear expectations, relevant training, productive coaching, holding regular team meetings, and appropriate performance management
* Lead by example, be a positive example for team in action and attitude
* Delegate work as appropriate, stating clearly objectives and time-line requirements
* Monitor and evaluate team member's successful completion of work
* Encourage effective teamwork
* Responsible management of department budget
* Work collaboratively with others to analyze and improve work processes
* Positive interaction with all levels of management and vendors
* Develop and adhere to annual action plan/ capital project list
* Have a disaster recovery system in place and in use
* Stay abreast of industry trends
* Contribute to team/company engagement efforts
* Perform other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Supervisor
JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
* Ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team of five or more team members
* Through knowledge of each job description, as it pertains to self and service team members
* Ability to understand, demonstrate and ensure team compliance of all necessary national and local building codes, safety codes, labor laws, to include but not limited to safe work practices, sexual harassment prevention, ADA, etc.
* Corporation and property standards, policies, procedures and guidelines to include but no limited to safety, OSHA, personnel appearance, maintenance etiquette and tool requirements
* Maintain high productivity for effective cost control
* Knowledge of contract requirements
* Thorough knowledge, and understanding or preventative maintenance
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* 3 years demonstrated leadership experience in hotel or similar maintenance or related field
* High School Diploma or equivalent required
