Job Summary
MGH nurses are committed to making an impact in the lives of their patients, and their colleagues. The MGH nurse is professionally engaged, possess clinical expertise, has a spirit of inquiry, embraces learning and fosters the patient relationship. This position is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation. Participates in decision making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care. This position is in charge of the daily operations of bed management, global view of staffing, and assists Unit Shift Managers, Relief, Unit Shift Managers, and staff as needed. Resource to staff and medical staff for policies and procedures. Follows through with employee, patient, and or family incidents communicating information to appropriate department. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
- Current, unencumbered Indiana Registered Nurse License.
- Minimum of two years nursing experience.
- CPR certification or must obtain at next available class upon hire.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Unit Shift Manager or Relief Unit Shift Manager experience preferred

- Knowledge of policies, governmental regulations and business practices pertinent to the department.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administrations, providers, consultants, business associates and regulatory agencies presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
- Excellent time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
- Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolution to conflict.
- Highly developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
- Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties
Working Conditions
- Typical hospital clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
- Work subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels.
- Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious, electrical and radiation hazards.
- Ability to work hours beyond the normal work week.
- Highly confidential information which may be proprietary or protected health information.
- Ability to work hours significantly beyond the normal work week.
- Attends special functions and meetings at various locations within the hospital and community.
- Occasional overnight stays.
