About the Job
BASIC FUNCTION
Perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current Federal, State & local standard guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as my be directed by the Administrator, and/or Director of Housekeeping, to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Sweep, mop floors daily.
2. Dust furniture, light fixtures, lamps, window ledges & wardrobes daily.
3. Move furniture in rooms and clean in corners, behind furniture and under beds daily.
4. Empty and change liners in waste cans/baskets daily.
5. Clean and wash basins, commodes, lavatories & fixtures daily.
6. Use furniture polish on both wood and chrome furniture as indicated.
7. Spot all walls & doors daily.
8. Keep all equipment, carts, etc., clean and in good working order at all times.
9. Report all needed repairs found to your supervisor and/or maintenance.
10. Follow cleaning schedules provided by your Supervisor.
11. Perform any other task directed by your Supervisor.
OTHER DUTIES:
12. Attend all required in-services training classes.
13. Attend all department meetings called by your supervisor.
14. Follow all safety rules.
15. Use only supplies needed for the task.
EXPOSURE RISK
Housekeepers are at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids when actively providing housekeeping duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives supervision directly from the Housekeeping Supervisor & indirectly from the Administrators.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age or older, in good health, both physical and mental. Be able to read and write with clarity sufficient to follow instructions, identify materials from their labels and understand the directors for use. Must be able to make written reports when necessary.
EXPERIENCE
No previous housekeeping or work experience required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently throughout the workday.
· Subject to frequent interruptions.
· May be subject to waste, blood, body fluids and infectious diseases, including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
· Works a flexible schedule. Be willing to work beyond the normal eight (8) hour work day. Be willing to work weekends, holidays and various shifts if needed.
· Subject to falls, cuts, bruises, burns, chemical vapors, urine or waste odors, etc., throughout the work day.
· Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, visitors, etc.
· Generally will work in an air-conditioned, heated, ventilated and well lit environment.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (With or without the aid of mechanical devices)
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable those senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- May be required to lift, push and pull, no more than 25 lbs.
- Must have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Must maintain good grooming, personal hygiene and follow the facility dress code.
- Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel, as well as be willing to cope respectfully and kindly with residents regardless of their maturity and/or functioning level.
- Must treat others, staff, visitors, residents, with dignity and respect at all times.
