The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments, ensuring that the facility remains clean, safe, and comfortable. This role ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as the standards set by the facility. Reporting to the Administrator, the Housekeeping Supervisor is tasked with maintaining the cleanliness of the facility while fostering a positive, productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Oversight:
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate all housekeeping and laundry operations.
- Ensure coordination of housekeeping and laundry services with other departments such as Nursing and Dietary.
- Maintain a Quality Assurance Program for housekeeping and laundry to meet high standards.
2. Administrative Duties:
- Perform necessary administrative tasks, including completing forms, reports, and evaluations.
- Monitor and report on housekeeping and laundry operations, making recommendations for improvements.
- Inspect storage and utility areas for cleanliness and adequate supply levels.
- Develop corrective plans for any deficiencies identified during inspections.
3. Staff Management:
- Recruit, hire, and train housekeeping and laundry staff.
- Determine and schedule staffing requirements, ensuring sufficient personnel for each shift.
- Assign daily work schedules, monitor staff performance, and provide ongoing feedback and support.
- Discipline or terminate employees when necessary and maintain accurate personnel records.
4. Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure that safety regulations are followed, particularly in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by monitoring equipment functionality and supply levels.
- Develop and implement infection control procedures and ensure that all staff adhere to universal precautions.
5. Budget & Supplies:
- Assist in planning the department’s budget and track expenditures.
- Ensure the department is stocked with necessary supplies and equipment to meet operational needs.
6. Resident Care:
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
- Ensure resident property rights are respected, and address complaints or grievances appropriately.
7. Collaboration & Communication:
- Serve on facility committees (e.g., Infection Control, Safety) and provide updates on housekeeping and laundry services.
- Attend department meetings and collaborate with other supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience:At least three years of supervisory experience in a hospital or medical facility, with a focus on environmental control practices.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Ability to make independent decisions and handle multiple tasks.
- Knowledgeable of housekeeping and laundry regulations in long-term care facilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move intermittently during working hours and handle the physical demands of the role, including lifting equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds.
- Emotional stability and the capacity to work with residents, staff, and outside agencies.
