TITLE: Human Resources Assistant
POSITION STATUS: Full-time/ Non-Exempt
HOURS: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
REPORTS TO: HR Manager
Join the Alliance for Community Empowerment as a Human Resources Assistant, where you'll play a key role in supporting the HR team. You'll assist in recruitment, screening, interviewing, and onboarding new staff, as well as advising on the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Ensuring compliance with HR laws and regulations will also be a vital part of your role. ACE’s Central Administration covers a variety of activities needed to operate the organization and its programs that do not involve direct program services and program management. These include support for the policy-making and oversight functions of the Board of Directors as well as the executive, financial management, physical facilities, human resources, and data management needs of the organization.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fosters positive relationships with community members and partner organizations.
- Participate in cultural and community-building activities/events.
- Promotes positive employee relations through design, communication, and interpretation of human resources policies and programs.
- Leads and partakes in committees relevant to the HR department.
- Support the HR Manager in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, providing guidance on HR-related issues.
- Facilitates ACE’s onboarding and recruitment procedure.
- Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
- Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors.
- Provides general administrative support to the HR department, including scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and handling correspondence.
- Shares all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility; assists staff members regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
- Works to incorporate into organizational culture best practices for diversity, equity, inclusion, restorative justice, and trauma-informed care.
- Completes complex administrative and analytical tasks involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative; plans; ensures quality and progress toward performance objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Possesses the technical and software skills to perform the duties of the position (including Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office).

- Demonstrates cultural competence/cultural humility in community relations and service delivery.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of human resources laws and regulations.
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of human resource management, dynamics of employee development and professional growth, and training program design and presentation.
- Able to sensitively manage confidential information, issues, and events affecting individual staff member employment experiences.
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree in human resources, public administration, business, or a related field and at least 1 year of human resource work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn human resource information systems (HRIS) and similar computer applications.
- 1 year of experience in HR concentration areas such as benefits; compensation; workforce planning and employment; employee relations; occupational health, safety and security; strategic management; employee development; and training preferred.
- Possess a current California Driver’s License, clean DMV record & adequate auto insurance.
- Must submit to a Department of Justice Criminal background check.
- Initial TB employment clearance is required.
The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in California is $26.44/hr to $28.05/hr. The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc.
