Job Summary: The HR & Benefits Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the administration of onboarding new hires, offboarding of former corporate staff, background checks, and new hire orientation. Responsibilities also include administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-and long-term disability and 401(k) plans. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Benefits, HRIS, & Compliance and is based in our corporate store support center in North Charleston, SC.
HR & Benefits Coordinator
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability, and FMLA.
• Effectively interprets FMLA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
• Assists with new-hire orientations and provide benefit information to new hires.
• Update and maintain the corporate organization chart.
• Requires one pre-assigned weekend a month to monitor the HR email inbox for onboarding messages.
• Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
• Performs quality checks of HRIS and benefits-related data and reviews and corrects exception reports for all benefit providers.
• Assists team members regarding benefits enrollment issues and plan changes.
• Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
• Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes.
• Responds to benefits inquiries from team members on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
• Responds to 401(k) inquiries from team members relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
• Assists with the annual open enrollment process.
• Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
• Serves as the backup for the office manager, focusing primarily on answering phone calls and greeting visitors at the front desk when the Office Manager is unavailable.
• Complete projects and other assigned duties by the Vice President of HR and the Sr. Manager of Benefits, HRIS, & Compliance.
Human Resources
• Regular attendance, punctuality, physical on-site attendance (if applicable), adherence to the Company’s established policies and the team member handbook.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
• Strong oral and written communication skills & the ability to work with others at all levels of the organization.
• Role will be based in our corporate headquarters in North Charleston, South Carolina, and will report to the Benefits Manager.
Education and Experience:
• Associate degree in HR or related field, or experience and or training/certification in HR field.
• Two years’ experience in HR and or benefits administration preferred.
Working environment and physical requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 10 pounds at times.
Travel: Must be able to travel up to 25%.
