The Department of Engineering HR Shared Services in The Grainger
College of Engineering seeks applicants for a HR Generalist
position. This position is responsible for managing a variety of human
resource activities and assisting with complex human resource issues,
escalating as needed for units within The Grainger College of
Engineering.

ties and Responsibilities:
- Independently coordinate search, hiring, and onboarding processes
for faculty and staff, including recruitment efforts. Communicate
and implement search procedures aligned with best practices and
compliance needs, advising search committees and hiring managers.
- Develop job postings.
- Communicate with applicants and new hires, facilitating interview,
hiring, and onboarding processes, including visa management.
- Participate in and support diversity and inclusion training and
programs. Provide guidance on DEI policies, initiatives, and
resolution of DEI-related compliance issues.

- Provide guidance to supervisors on performance management practices
and issues. Manage probationary and yearly performance review
process. Manage minor supervisor/employee conflicts requiring
intervention or consultation with either party. Facilitate
accommodations and conflict resolution efforts.
- Recommend interpretation of collective bargaining agreement language
and corrective actions to performance issues under administrative
supervision.

- Process appointments, payroll, and/or timesheets, including unique
payments like summer salary. Address complex timesheet/leave issues
and return timesheets/leave requests as needed. Process routine and
non-routine pay adjustments.
- Administer and track FMLA, PLFA, and other managed leave categories.
- Counsel and resolve issues related to leave. Inform staff of all
regulations/policies relating to leave usage and time reporting.

- Conduct job classification and analysis processes. Provide guidance
on job descriptions, promotions, and titles. Identify out-of-scope
duties and recommend title changes based on overall
responsibilities, as appropriate.

- Advise on salary decisions and develop justifications with general
oversight.
- Recommend compensation amounts for temporary/additional pay
circumstances, escalating unique circumstances for additional input.
- Inform employees of all available benefit offerings.

- Ensure adherence to HR policies and legal requirements through
tracking, training, and internal reviews. Identify areas of concern
related to adherence to HR policies and legal requirements.
- Enter routine and non-routine data and pull reports. Ensure accuracy
of input data and reports and/or resolve minor discrepancies. May
develop new reports.
- Participate in systems testing and/or feedback.

- Inform employees of targeted opportunities for professional
development. Work with supervisors to request promotions and/or plan
for promotions and employee career pathing.

- Other duties as assigned. Support organizational development
initiatives. Provides input on development strategies, programs, and
retention efforts. Promote a positive work environment and address
basic concerns as able. May participate in organizational
assessments, gather feedback, stay interviewing, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration, Management,
Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor
Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the
position.
- Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing
professional-level human resources duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public university experience providing human resources support and
coordination.
- Experience in documentation, training, search and hire practices,
visa processing, and/or appointments processing.
- Experience working in HR information systems.
- Professional HR certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of concepts and procedures to perform complex tasks;
identify problems and solutions independently; identify and resolve
missing information; improve existing processes.
- Ability to operate independently with occasional supervision and
perform tasks autonomously with effective communication skills.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time Civil Service HR Associate position appointed on
a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible
after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is
$55,000 - $65,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with
