About the Job
Job Summary:
The Human Resources Specialist provides functional and administrative support to the Human Resources Team.
Essential Duties:
- Assist in maintaining compliance processes related to employee benefits, onboarding, safety and other HR functions as necessary. Ensure adherence to applicable regulations and internal policies.
- Assist in general benefits administration tasks including benefit enrollment, status changes, qualifying life event (QLE) management, and miscellaneous documentation pertaining to leave of absence/ADA requests.
- Assist with workers compensation reporting and follow-up. Ensure accurate documentation and timely resolution of claims and related issues. Assist with safety program and evaluate, assess, and improve safety, health and environmental practices.
- Screen and select qualified candidates for interviewing phase.
- Assist with interviewing process, attend, and conduct interviews along with manager/supervisor.
- Aid in managing employee background checks, and clearances as required for their positions. Track and ensure timely completion of all necessary checks and documentation.
- Assist in generating reports and maintaining HR system.
- Organize and file confidential documents and information as needed. Maintain strict confidentiality and security of sensitive employee information. Assist with managing employee records and ensure records are accurate, up-to-date and properly maintained.
Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Experience in handling confidential information.
- Working knowledge of Excel and Word.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resource management, business administration or related field or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations including ADA, FMLA, ERISA, EEOC and DOL.
- Two to three years in a Human Resources role required.
- Experience working in a union environment preferred.
