Position Summary
Oversees integrative workplace health programs such as Workers Compensation, leaves of absence, ergonomics, and medical accommodations. Works closely with the HR Coordinator (Leaves & Accommodations) to ensure offers of leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, and Workers Compensation are handled within guidelines and documented appropriately. Maintains quality service standards set by the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review all leave requests received for eligibility and to ensure all are handled within guidelines and documented appropriately. Review all accommodation requests and provide recommendations to management on how to proceed in each case.
- Ensure all approved accommodations are implemented immediately, in partnership with management and other departments, and that any workplace equipment items are delivered timely. Ensures that all requests are handled consistently per credit union policies. Conducts regular and timely follow-ups.
- Provide ongoing support for any open leave and accommodation case involving back-office Operations staff (aside from Call Center and SRP), any Management employee (supervisor and above), and other cases as assigned. Respond timely to all requests and ensure that each case is properly documented as required.Provide oversight and back-up support for all other open leave cases.
- Manage all open Workers’ Compensation claims. Conduct regular follow-ups and outreach with employees and managers. Provide updates to carrier; schedule and attend quarterly claims reviews with the broker and insurance carriers. Provide management with a summary of each quarterly claims review.
- Guide HR Coordinator (Leaves & Accommodations) on completing assessments for periodic individual and site ergonomic evaluations in conjunction with carrier. Reviews carrier recommendations and orders approved ergonomic supplies and accommodations as needed.
- Completes and posts annual Cal/OSHA 300 logs as required by the US Department of Labor.
- Responds to routine HR-related questions related to policy interpretation and application; responds to employee concerns and provide information and policy guidance to supervisor and/or employee. Escalate issues to manager as appropriate.

- Assist in answering phones, screening or appropriately directing calls and messages.
- Back up to Human Resources Coordinator (Leaves & Accommodations) and HR Generalist (Benefits)
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
- Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field, a certificate in Human Resources Management, or two years’ additional related work experience.
- Functional competency with basic HR body of knowledge, with two years’ experience working in an HR/Employee Relations Department to include hands-on experience with leaves of absence, accommodations, employee relations or other relevant experience in other areas of HR.
- College level math and analytical skills.
- Working experience and ability to solve complex problems and deliver solutions where past precedent may not exist. Requires a significant degree of creativity and the ability to analyze scenarios, weighing the desirability and/or probability of possible outcomes in relation to each other.
- Ability to effectively navigate nuance is required.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and effective problem-solving skills.
- Professional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated internal service skills, including patience, discretion and confidentiality.
- Intermediate level PC and MS Office skills, to include Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills. Project management experience is desirable. Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
