As a Human Systems Integration (HSI) Lead, you will play a critical role in supporting the design and integration of Astrolab’s rovers to support human safety, performance, and usability. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including subsystem engineers, UX designers, other human factors specialists, and astronauts, to ensure that our rovers are designed with human needs in mind.
As a Human Systems Integration (HSI) Lead, you will play a critical role in supporting the design and integration of Astrolab’s rovers to support human safety, performance, and usability. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including subsystem engineers, UX designers, other human factors specialists, and astronauts, to ensure that our rovers are designed with human needs in mind.
What you'll do:
- Support the design and integration of humans with Astrolab’s lunar rovers
- Conduct human factors engineering analyses and testing (e.g., human-in-the-loop, task analysis, human error, crew loading, risk assessment and mitigation) to ensure Astrolab’s rover design is aligned with human performance capabilities and limitations
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to optimize for human use of the rover control interfaces (monitors, controls, stands), and crew-vehicle interaction including tool use and crew contingency scenarios
- Assess and recommend design modifications to optimize safety, efficiency of crew time, and operational effectiveness of Astrolab’s rovers
- Support the development of technical documentation, including HSI deliverables to NASA, HSI reports and user manuals
- Present and defend HSI findings to internal and external stakeholders, including NASA human factors communities, in informal and formal settings
- Ensure compliance with NASA HSI requirements and industry standards
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a STEM field
- 3+ years of experience in human systems integration or human factors engineering, preferably in aerospace or a related industry
- Knowledge of space systems, astronaut requirements, and NASA human factors guidelines
- Understanding of systems engineering tools and methodologies
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross-disciplinary team
- Experience with user testing, simulation and analog-environment development, and ergonomic assessments
