The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Communications Specialist to support its public involvement program. This position will assist with public meetings, public comments, a virtual public engagement platform and contribute to major communications and public relations activities. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Drafting public meeting notices, coordinating presentation materials and preparing meeting minutes
- Organizing and attending in-person public meetings at the NCTCOG main campus in Arlington and throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region
- Utilizing the department’s virtual public engagement platform to host online and hybrid public meetings
- Supporting the development and implementation of public engagement and communications plans for department projects and programs
- Coordinating with department staff on responses to public comments and preparing monthly comment reports
- Presenting public involvement updates during monthly committee meetings
- Evaluating communication and outreach strategies specifically related to department public involvement efforts through data tracking and analysis
- Contributing to creative and innovative ideas for improving the public involvement process
- Coordinating business outreach efforts, including site visits and stakeholder meetings
- Serving as a Transportation Department representative by attending committee meetings and events
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher and Outlook
- Proficiency with Adobe Communications Cloud and design software such as Canva
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Required Education and Experience
- Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field, which is normally acquired through four years of college and results in a bachelor’s degree. Relevant fields of study include strategic communications, public relations, marketing, public administration or a related field of study.
- At least one year of job-related experience
Starting Salary Range
$54,009.00 - $$64,810.80 annually
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments and was established to assist in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit and coordinating for sound regional development. NCTCOG's purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication and make joint decisions. Since 1974, NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant and Wise.
