Overview:
This person will be responsible for the maintenance of all major environmental control equipment at the College. In addition, they will be responsible for the proper calibration of new heating and cooling equipment.

Qualifications:EDUCATION
- Documented completion of technical courses in a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration school, institute, or branch of Armed Services. Required
- Must have a working, relevant knowledge of electrical systems and general electrical principles and practices. Required
- Graduation from a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration trade school or completion of a formal training program recognized by the industry and trade. Preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Four (4) years of recent full-time experience as a commercial/industrial/institutional refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic. Required
- Must be able to demonstrate application and installation of electrical maintenance and systems. Required
- Experience in electrical maintenance and construction. Required
- Extensive experience in industrial maintenance/repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Required
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Must have a working knowledge of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning theory, practices and techniques, and applicable code regulations. Required
- Must be able to respond to emergency calls on a 24hour basis. Required
- Must possess a valid driver's license at all times. Required
- Ability to read diagrams, blueprints, and control prints. Required
- Ability to communicate problems and/or solutions to problems to other staff. Required
- Possession of current CFC certification (Classes I and II). Required
- Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues. Required
- Possession of basic computer skills. Preferred
Responsibilities:
- Assist Supervisor of Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Systems with maintenance of heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment and supplies so as to assure proper environmental control in all College-owned facilities.
- Equipment includes but is not limited to:
- Hot water boilers
- Steam boilers
- Warm air furnaces
- Air handlers with D.X. coils (direct expansion) and chilled water-cooling coils.
- Refrigeration compressors
- Condensers
- Chillers
- Large base-mounted pumps
- Walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
- Diagnose heating and cooling problems/emergencies. Report and recommend to supervisor any corrective action(s) necessary relative to HVAC objectives.
- Repair, maintain and install electrical systems and equipment such as motors, transformers, controls, etc., consistent with all electrical requirements relevant to the maintenance of mechanical equipment and new College construction.
- Plan, lay out and install such electrical apparatus and equipment.
- Adjust and monitor combination oil and gas burners for efficient and smooth operation.
- Change hermetically-sealed compressors when needed.
- Change and adjust thermostatic expansion valves when needed.
- Repair and replace malfunctioning or worn components of existing refrigeration systems when needed.
- Evacuate refrigeration systems and properly recharge systems with correct refrigerant.
- Assist supervisor with the installation of new heating and cooling systems and extensions of same as needed.
- Establish and maintain equipment testing facilities for in-house utilization.
