HJF is seeking an HVAC Mechanic who installs, services, and repairs heating, ventilating, airconditioning systems and related environmental-control systems utilizing knowledge of heating and refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
This position will be in support of the Uniformed Serives University, Facilities Division.
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Responsibilities:- General: Install, modify, maintain, troubleshoot and repair new and existing utility systems,electrical systems and commercial/industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) & refrigeration systems.
- Maintenance: Check air handling equipment. Complete all preventive maintenance (PM) and develop PM schedules. As necessary, work with other tradespeople to accomplish tasks.
- Troubleshoot & Repair: Trace and locate defects using the proper tools and testing devices including troubleshooting and repairing minor electrical circuits and equipment. Accomplish repairs according to accepted trade practices. As necessary, work with other tradespeople to accomplish tasks.
- Works from oral instructions, blue prints, and written work orders
- Plans test procedures, determines the proper kind and type of parts and equipment needed, and installs and repairs a variety of systems with little or no check during the progress of the assignment.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Education and Experience
- High School/GED Required
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required
- HVAC License required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Extensive knowledge of the construction and operation of variety of domestic systems.
- Must be skilled in serving power sources
- Skills in the use of any of the accepted trade methods and techniques
- Ability to work from oral instructions, blueprints, and written work orders
Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check
License and Certification
- License requirements for HVAC vary by state. EPA Section 608 Universal plus location-specific state-issued license (if applicable).
Physical Capabilities:
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, climb, pull, and lift heavy objects
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a facilities setting.
- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 6am-3:30pm EST.
Compensation:
- The hourly pay range for this position is $24.09-$38.89. Actual salary pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
