Summary:
Under general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor responsible for the maintenance and operation of heating ventilation air conditioning refrigeration and gas fired systems in the Hospital and its related buildings.
Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program for all central mechanical and refrigeration systems.
Investigates determines defects in and makes repairs to central mechanical and refrigeration systems including repairs and calibration of pneumatic control systems filter inspections and changes lubrication and belt changes. Maintains air conditioning refrigeration and gas fired equipment and systems including refrigerators freezers ice makers air and water cooled window and free standing air conditioners and their related controls Freon flow and charge regulators low voltage wiring devices and other mechanical parts. Installs air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems as outlined above through the use of torches fittings gauges and other necessary equipment. Monitors and controls performance with computerized temperature control and energy management system.
Performs and documents air quantity tests at supply and exhaust registers and main duct runs and adjusts to maintain design conditions.
Maintains adequate inventory of materials; obtains prices of materials and prepares requisitions.
Operates and maintains high pressure steam boilers compressors and central chilled water generating systems including cooling towers pumps gauge and controls; periodically adjusts controls as required.
Performs other related duties including those of a general mechanic as assigned by work order emergency calls or direct assignment.
Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Miriam Hospital Facilities Management Department policy and the Fleet Risk Control Policy and Procedures.
Must have a good driving record meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver licenses in order to operate motor vehicles as required by the Fleet Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and in accordance with the Brown University Health Fleet Risk Control Policy.
Performs other related duties as required.
Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Equivalent to completion of four years of high school with advanced training in the maintenance and operation of computer control system.
Knowledge of hand and power tool operation required.
Refrigeration license required .
State of RI Stationary Engineer license required within six months after hire date.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of experience in a skilled trade.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
May provide technical supervision of assigned general mechanics.
