Level Descriptions:
Level I – Must be able to achieve many objectives of this position. Requires some amount of timely supervision to ensure the proper tasks are being accomplished and that communication is adequate, timely, in the correct manner (i.e. verbal, written, email, etc.).
Level II - Consistently achieves all of the objectives of this position. This individual also provides mentoring and direct day-to-day supervision to level I positions.
Senior - Highly experienced in the position. Advanced awareness of the technical needs of controls system programming, integrations to other systems, and very sophisticated HVAC strategies if working in the control field.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide Controls database, graphics, programming, etc. for sequences as provided by the Design Specialist, project specifications, or other applicable sources.
- Develop the specialized software required for a complete integrated building automation system or energy management system.
- Use specialized software to write custom applications for building performance or provides automation for system backup for ongoing building management.
- Use reporting software to follow-up on building performance and make adjustments to enhance the performance and tuning of the system.
- Use existing software and develop enhancements to provide additional functionality for energy reporting and graphic interfaces for customer dashboards.
- Develop custom scripts to query existing databases for service upgrades.
- Develop enhancements to existing applications to enhance functionality and efficiency.
- Support installation and startup personnel with adjustments to software as required.
- Provide information and support for other contractors on project site.
- Debug mechanical and installation issues that can come up when executing the static and dynamic start up and commissioning of building controls.
- Provide support to Climatec and other contractors to solve building operating issues that go beyond the Climatec controls or special systems operation.
- Provide input to others as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building systems.
- Provide start up documentation including, check out logs, commissioning documents, etc. as required for assigned projects.
- Ensure timely software backups are created for projects and software development.
- Provide service support on existing systems ensuring their proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the facility’s building engineers.
- Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist in preparing of submittal documents, as-built drawings and Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
- Initiate the transition from Operations Team to Service Team. Verify that proper backups, as built and facility performance software is in place.
- Assist Sales team during estimating phase including potential product or system demonstrations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, computer science or HVAC Controls engineering, or 5+ years of related BMS industry experience.
- 3+ years of experience with Building Management Systems, using Niagara framework or similar systems.
- Other technical experience such as military training or on-the-job training programs, as determined by local management.
- Ability to work independently with little to no supervision (Level II & Senior Software Engineers).
- Understanding of HVAC system operations and mechanical & electrical systems within a facility.
- Proficiency with computer operating systems, including MS Office Suite.
- Ability to configure and debug computer and networking problems.
- Experience with programming.
- Ability to work with electronic equipment such as volt meters, amp meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic electric and electronic circuitry, including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.
- Working understanding of AC power circuitry, including breakers and multi-phase power (120VAC and greater).
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Empathy and problem-solving skills to understand and address the issues and perceptions of others effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- N4 Certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field.
- Additional technical certifications or coursework related to HVAC Controls engineering, Electrical engineering, or Building Management Systems.
- Deep understanding of DDC or special systems that control buildings (Level II & Senior Software Engineers).
- Strong awareness of Climatec culture and the industry culture (Level II & Senior Software Engineers).
Essential Job Functions:
- Be able to lift and carry drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
- Be able to lift up to 50lbs.
- Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.
- Be able to climb several flights of stairs throughout a typical day on a construction site.
- Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Climatec’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a company vehicle.
- Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
