About the Job
Herriman City has the best ice skating ribbon around and we need some friendly and fun individuals to help us create an atmosphere Hallmark Movies are made from! We provide a Top Place to Work (SL Tribune) with an opportunity to gain customer service experience and enjoy a great winter environment. Shift requirements are for nights, weekends (including some Sundays), and some holidays through the winter season. Additional consideration will be given to Spanish-speaking applicants. The Ice Ribbon opens December 2nd for the 2024-2025 Winter Season, although some training will be required prior to opening. The job will be closed when all positions have been filled.
## GENERAL PURPOSE
Provides customer service to the community who are using the ice-skating rink and Crane Park. Ensure a safe and friendly environment for residents and families to enjoy our facilities.
## SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the direction of the Events Manager, but may receive direction from other Events Technicians, Seasonal Events Supervisor, or Lead.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide assistance and support at the City's ice skate ribbon.
- Assists with skate rentals and returns. May patrol ice to ensure proper traffic flow and skate safety.
- Follows money-handling policies and is responsible for accounting money and balancing at the end of each shift, if applicable.
- Ensures safety regulations and rules are being followed by customers and residents to create a safe environment.
- Supports the maintenance and custodial team by performing restroom cleaning to ensure facilities are in clean order and working properly. Notifies the Parks department of larger facility and cleaning needs.
- Ensures work areas are clean and organized before leaving at the end of shifts including the rental stand and surrounding areas.
- Fills out and follows cleaning checklist.
- Ensures rink entrances and walkways are cleared of snow and debris.
- Monitors trash and ensures cans are emptied when needed.
- Flexible hours are required including working some holidays, weekends, and late nights as needed. This is a seasonal position with no guarantee of hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School Diploma or be working towards a diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- No previous work experience required.
Certifications/Licenses:
- None required.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years old on or before November 18, 2024.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and driving record check (if applicable).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in customer service.
- Special consideration given to those at least 18 years old.
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English.
- Communicate effectively with customers and provide efficient service.
- Ability to develop an effective working relationship with supervisor and staff.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment and adhere to timeline expectations.
- Ability to work flexible hours and extra hours as required including (holidays, weekends, Sundays, and nights), work schedule may, in rare circumstances, require working longer than a ten (10) hour shift and being on-call.
- Physically able to lift garbage bags of up to 30 lbs. Able to stand and/or walk for multiple hours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ice Ribbon has a heated building but with open windows which may cause exposu
re to cold temperatures, ice, and snow.
- Certain shifts will require staff to monitor the ice ribbon on the ice, clean up, and collect outside garbage. There will be exposure to cold temperatures. Proper winter attire will be required.
- Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally invol ing muscular strain, such as walking standing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, and reaching. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to performing required job functions.
- Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity must exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and the ability to maintain composure in adverse situations.
- Proper use of hazardous chemicals may be required.
- Exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions.
- The City may make reasonable accommodations to the work environment and duties for those who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
