ICME Homogenization Process Design (Metallurgy) Co-Op - Novelis Global R&T

The Novelis Kennesaw team is seeking a Metallurgy R&D Co-op. The person in this role will report to the Lead Scientist in Metallurgy cluster. The ideal candidate will be responsible for microstructure and process route development of 3xxx and 6xxx alloys using ICME approach. This position will have the opportunity to make significant contributions to multiple product development projects.

Responsibilities:

· Perform lab experiments such as heat treatments, characterization, and rolling

· Develop thermodynamic and computational models to guide the experiments

· Design integrated computational modelling approaches to optimize microstructure along the process route

· Develop and manage technical work packages including supporting work of team members

· Analyze the data, interpret and present to the stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

· Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Materials Science & Engineering

· Experience with heat treatments, sample preparation, optical microscopy, SEM, and STEM

· Experience with phase diagrams, Thermo-Calc, Dictra, and PRISMA

· Experience with alloy design

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with Al alloy design, processing, and microstructure

· Ability to develop and test hypotheses

· Independent problem solver
