What You’ll Be Doing:
Would you like to work with ground-breaking technology? Are you as comfortable behind the wheel as you are with a computer?
As an Operations Lead, you will help us test, improve, and oversee our fleet of driverless cars. You will tackle hard problems that have immediate and valuable real-world applications. You should have strong attention to detail, basic technical skills, and an excellent driving record. Integrity, good judgment, and the ability to work in a team environment are required at all times. You will be expected to keep certain project details confidential.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Include:
Foster Client Safety First culture
Assign AVTOs to available AVs, conduct pre- and post-shift AVTO briefings, direct fire-up tests, and conduct garage exit strategy.
Ensure AVs are rotated on and off the chargers as needed and upload disk data quickly, ensuring hard drives are available for the shift.
Maintain inventory of garage materials and cleanliness.
Monitor field communication to assist in troubleshooting and operational necessities
Assist Training Coordinators and Training Leads with initial and refresher training as needed, assign AVs for training purposes, conduct training audits, coordinate quizzes, and conduct periodic driving tests with AVTO candidates.
Serve as veteran AVTO as availability permits
Test other aspects of our autonomous vehicles
Conduct weekly safety audits of operational practices and coordinate safety trainings
Perform ad hoc projects as needed, including those in support of delivery and other community support and/or pilots
You Must Have the Ability to:
Prioritize safety and maintain a safety-first mindset, while following all safe work practices and policies
Satisfy the legal requirements to become an AV Test Operator (13 CCR § 227.34), including being licensed to drive a motor vehicle in the U.S. for the three years immediately preceding your application, currently holding an active California Basic Class C driver's license or license encompassing Class C vehicles, and no more than one point on driving record
Successfully complete a background check, drug screen and DMV Motor Vehicle Record check
Occasionally drive and/or ride as notetaker in the AV for up to eight hours/day, as required
Accurately type and read on a laptop in a moving vehicle
Ability to give and receive clear, prompt, and understandable verbal and written communications
Safely operate the AV in accordance with Client safety protocols and applicable law. This includes, but is not limited to, having a sufficient range of motion to frequently turn a steering wheel, operate the accelerator and brake, check blind spots and evaluate the environment, and maintaining appropriate air bag clearance
Tolerate occasional abrupt starts, stops, turns, and maneuvers associated with driving or taking control of the AV in both training and daily job functions
Regularly perform physical work including, but not limited to, stooping, lifting, and moving up to 30 pounds.
Remain alert and extremely focused for two-hour uninterrupted blocks of time
Work comfortably in a fast-paced environment, including interacting with the public
Demonstrate high attention to detail
Communicate and build rapport with a rapidly growing team
Anticipate future issues and mitigate them before they become operational
Speak in front of large groups and communicate all issues to managers/coordinators
Excel in a complex and dynamic environment
Demonstrate professionalism among various levels of management and AV operations
Drive numerous activities and projects simultaneously and with ease
Foster passion about self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world amongst AVTOs and colleagues
Demonstrate track record of thriving in a team environment
Computer literacy required, with an emphasis on laptop usage. Expectations include skills such as navigating through multiple accounts and windows quickly, using common keyboard shortcuts, and using various software programs to include instant messaging. Must type a minimum of 20 wpm.
