KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan. We partner with families and communities to create joyful and rigorous schools in pursuit of a more just world. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx, with a vision that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. Today, our network consists of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive program to support our students and alumni in choosing and preparing for the educational and career paths that fit their goals and sense of purpose. KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers work closely both as a team and with General Education Teachers in order to plan targeted, high-leverage intervention for their students.  Our Special Education Teachers seek first to diagnose student challenges and then to design individual programs and differentiated strategies in order to meet specific needs.  The team serves students with IEPs and diagnosed disabilities, as well as with students who are identified as at-risk.  

General responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

• Teaching a rigorous college preparatory curriculum which combines the school’s standards and the New York State standards
• Teaching students in a high-quality, exciting way
• Committing to constant professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachers
• Using data to drive decisions
• Constantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleagues
• Providing individual or small group instruction for students who need additional assistance
• Modeling a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure that each student is successful.
• Modeling the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff

• Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude and a sense of humor.
• At least two years of teaching experience strongly preferred
• New York State teacher certification in the appropriate content area
• Bachelor’s degree required
• A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture
• A strong desire to become a better teacher by joining the KIPP NYC team and family
• Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students from the communities KIPP NYC serves

Compensation and Benefits:

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,829 - $142,270 per year.  Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role, NYS initial or professional certification, and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP NYC will evaluate a candidate’s years of experience, certification, and longevity at point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale.

This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools.
