JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: In-School Suspension Aide
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt
FUNDING SOURCE: Local
REPORTS TO: Campus Principal
PAY GRADE: Paraprofessional 030 (187 Days)
DATE REVISED: May 22, 2001
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist campus personnel in maintaining a safe/orderly environment by improving students’ attitudes and behaviors which impacts the overall learning climate of the campus
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
- High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with children/students
- Effective organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of general office equipment
Minimum Experience:
Experience working with children/students or parents
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Supervise assigned students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
- Oversee and provide instructional assistance to individual students on assignments as provided by the teachers
- Keep the teachers/administrators informed of any special needs, problems, and progress of individual students
- Maintain a neat and orderly classroom
- Keep administrative records and prepare reports as required
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as required

Copier, computer, fax machine
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Work in confined area with limited adult interaction.
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
