Our ILS (Independent Living Skills) coaches provide support and help teach the skills necessary for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be grow their independence, have the tools and knowledge to be self-reliant, lead successful and happy lives, live the life that want in the environment or home of their choice.

The Job:
Under the minimal supervision of the ILS Program Manager, you as a Coach will support and teach each client assigned to them based on the client’s individual support plan goals. Some examples of the functional life skills that you might assist/support/teach are: advocacy, basic cooking, maintaining a home, managing medical appointments, access or utilize local community resources and how to access and utilize local/public transportation.
You will manage a caseload of several clients assigned to you by supporting and working with the individual clients in their own homes and/or out in the community to help them achieve their goals. In this this position, you are given the general liberty to make your own daily and weekly schedules based on understanding the clients monthly hourly needs and by working with the client’s availability and their desired days and times that work best for them. You will be responsible for taking and documenting daily service/case notes and writing quarterly progress reports for the individuals assigned to you. 90% of your the time will be spent in the field working with clients and the other 10% will be administrative work, such as writing reports, documentation, emails, etc. As part of this position, you will be required to attend monthly training meetings at SYW’s branch office and communicate regularly with both your ILS Program Manager and your client’s RC service coordinators.
As part of the position, you must be willing to drive your own vehicle from client-to-client’s home when working/meeting with them and the mile radius can vary based on the area and where the clients live. At times you may be required to transport the client into the community for errands, medical appointments, and community outings. MUST HAVE- Reliable and safe transportation, a valid Driver’s License, car insurance, and valid car registration.

We will train those with minimal experience in this field if your personality appears to be a good fit for the individuals we serve.

Preferred Education / Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- A degree in a related field is desired, although it's not required.
- We focus primarily on candidates with a great work ethic, a positive personality that is warm, and inviting.
- Experience in a related field: ILS, SLS, caretaking, CNA, teaching, coaching, a history of working with children or adults with IDD or other disabilities.
