Independent Living Specialist - Independent Living Choices

Job Title: Independent Living Specialist – location is flexible

Independent Living Choices is seeking to hire an Independent Living Specialist to assist people with disabilities in Standing Rock (Corson County), Cheyenne River (Ziebach, Dewey County), Campbell, Walworth, and Campbell Counties in Northern South Dakota. The location of this position is flexible, and applicants will be considered anywhere between Pierre and Aberdeen. Office is currently located in Mobridge. An agency vehicle is provided for travel.

Job Description: Independent Living Specialists work alongside people with disabilities to help them identify and access needed services. 

About Independent Living Choices:  Independent Living Choices is a 501c3 Nonprofit that provides services to people with disabilities who make independence their choice. One of only 2 Centers for Independent Living in the state of South Dakota, we provide services to 50 counties and all 9 Tribal Nations. 

What it’s Like to Work Here: Many of our employees have been with Independent Living Choices for a number of years. Starting wage is between $17 -$19 per hour, DOQ. Health, vision, dental, 401k, 160 hours of Paid Time Off annually, and additional benefits are available after the introductory period. You will also receive at least 9 paid holidays off per year. Agency vehicles are also provided for work-related travel. 

A Day in the Life of an Independent Living Specialist: No two days as an Independent Living Specialist will ever be the same. As an Independent Living Specialist, you will spend time in the office, in local communities, and in the homes of people with disabilities. You will provide direct services to participants, help them identify and access other resources and services, make referrals, participate in outreach activities, facilitate peer support groups, transition classes, and more!

Qualifications to be an Independent Living Specialist: The right person will be self-motivated and passionate about helping others. Must excel in problem solving, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills. A bachelor’s degree in a human services or social work field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred, but not required. Must possess a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
