Essential Function
Buyer is responsible for procurement of indirect goods not for sale and commodities essential for corporate, retail sales and operations
Monitor, analyze, and evaluate consumption trends, shipping history, sales records, and quality of goods to determine operational impact, financial exposure, cost benefits, best value, yield, and cost of ownership
Buyer owns end to end inventory position including forecasting, purchasing, allocation, SKU maintenance, cost negotiations and product life cycle
Partners with cross functional teams to ensure all business needs are met including administering RFI, RFP & RFQs.
Primary Duties
30% Evaluate and select, orders, purchase merchandise consistent with contract costs, value and quality, quantity, and specification requirements of the business
Negotiate costs, early pay discounts, payment terms, and transportation arrangements for commodities, goods and services
Ensures that items are ordered, received and available to customers in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner
Plan and forecast inventory requirements for multiple DC’s to anticipate needs and mitigate out of stocks.
25% Analyzes and monitors purchasing history, non-compliant buying patterns, vendor spend, trends and macro-economic environment to anticipate buying patterns and determine what the company will sell and consume and how much inventory is needed to support utilization from retail operations and sales activities.
25% Support Procurement Category Manager in conducting RFI/RFQ/RFP’s and identify opportunities to bid on services, materials, or commodity requirements
Reviews and evaluates spend and proactively seek potential new suppliers or vendor consolidation opportunities to encourage competition that results in best value and cost opportunities for the business.
15% Participates in special projects and spot buys that require subject matter expertise for new store concept projects, including specialized product knowledge including trends, vendor sourcing, inventory management, spend analytics, and vendor agreements
5% Assist the Procurement Category Manager or Director with assigned category strategy support with applicable data and vendor spend
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience
3+ years commodity purchasing and sourcing experience in related field
Indirect goods not for sale and services preferred.
Proven track record of maintaining high service levels across multiple Distribution enters.
Organized with excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
Broad knowledge of retail displays, furniture, fixtures, and equipment, along with related commodities is strongly preferred
Competencies / Attributes
Ability to be a self-starter and coordinate multiple tasks in various environments
Ability to work with multiple departments and various levels of management
Ability to maintain a professionalism with internal customers and external vendors
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, written and verbal, to influence business partners, cross-functional teams, and all levels of personnel
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
The work is sedentary
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work
However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc
No special physical demands are required to perform the work
Frequent travel required.
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc
The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
