About the Job
We are seeking a full-time Industrial Designer 1 – OEM / Exhibits in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for working with higher level designers in the conceptualization and development of new products, programs, and exhibit solutions.
Responsibilities:Essential Functions
- Develop and communicate through sketching, 3D modeling, renderings, computer generated images and physical mock ups
- Generate fresh ideas, innovative design concepts, and pragmatic mechanical solutions
- Create part and construction files for prototyping and fabrication
- Accept and act on feedback to refine/improve designs, concepts, and solutions
- Develop understanding of material application, resource costing, and task management
- Coordinate with suppliers, monitor quality, track orders, and maintain schedule of deliverables
- Provide department (shop, equipment, software, computer, other), tradeshow and meeting support as needed (travel required)
- Stay current on prototyping, presentation, computer graphics techniques, and industry software
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience and/or training necessary to use relevant software (SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite)
- Demonstrated ability to research client/customer data, exhibit use attributes, and industry trends
- Demonstrated ability to co-develop physical mock-ups, models, and exhibits (samples/portfolio)
- Ability to complete basic shop tasks, fabricate small projects, and contribute to large project efforts
- Basic knowledge of shop safety procedures, and educational experience working with shop equipment (Saws, milling machines, routers, jointers, drill press, sanders and hand tools)
- Educational understanding and experience with a variety of materials such as model board, wood, metal, plastics, and similar materials
Exhibit Designer
- Environmental, display, and tradeshow design experience (school projects are acceptable, portfolio examples are required)
- Ability to help create specifications for exhibits that meet client and show requirements
- Keeps current on exhibit and display design trends and competitors’ designs
- Able to collaborate and develop material, textures and surface finishes options as needed
- Assist in the fabrication, crating, and logistical planning associated with assigned project
- Strong knowledge of millwork construction methods and machinery (CNC experience preferred)
- Educational understanding of low voltage lighting, sound, and electrical systems
