About the Job
- Lead and participate in the identification, prioritization, implementation, and control of cost reduction and process improvement initiatives using Industrial Engineering methodologies and processes.
- Identify innovative approaches to company-wide store issues that create opportunities for breakthrough process improvements that positively impact the customer shopping experience, safety, product freshness and food safety.
- Provide statistical analysis reports evaluating the efficiency of current processes, procedures, equipment and associates.
- Develop scope and charter definitions for projects.
- Conduct feasibility studies of varied projects to determine the worth of an investment and provide justification for capital appropriations.
- Evaluate vendor and supplier proposals for new equipment purchases to ensure increased efficiency and evaluate the equipment’s contribution to cost saving measures.
- Serve as a liaison to Retail Operations peers, other department leaders and executive leadership.
- Provide IE support to stores lagging in attainment rates including methods and procedural issues, store profile audits, task requirements, and other areas.
- Travel to retail locations and offices to support process improvement initiatives and improve efficiencies by reducing waste of time, money, materials, energy and other resources.

- Responsible for directing the implementation of engineered labor standards working with the Operations team to facilitate labor modeling to ensure customer service and standards are represented.
- Note: this role would be critical in updating and revising labor standards based on implementing new processes and technologies to adjust standards and required hours to realize benefits of those enhancements. For example, Self-checkout, Tri-belts, and improvements in store level processes. This individual could also support standard updates for RPI and VWT.
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or a closely related field.
- 5+ years progressive industrial engineer project experience in a complex, integrated retail network.
- Broad background in industrial engineering technology, application and project management.
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work well within project teams.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Effective planning, negotiating, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizing skills.
- Able to utilize all work measurement tools available (i.e. MTM, MOST, Time Study, Analysis).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to earn Lean/Six Sigma belt certification within one year.
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering (or related field) required.
- Experience in retail operations, includes stores and Distribution Centers.
- Experience with Workforce Management Software - Logile, preferred.
- Experience in Grocery Industry.
- Some travel, up to 30%.
- Combination of working within the stores and corporate office.

They offered specialty and traditional items customers couldn’t find anywhere else: cut-to-order Latin-style meats (ranchera, diesmillo, lomo de res), spices, fresh fruit and produce, delicious prepared foods, pan dulce made daily, plus everything else you would expect from a traditional grocery store. Fast forward to today where Vallarta has expanded its offerings to include a juice and aquas frescas bar, tortilleria, bakery (panaderia), a cevicheria and more.
