- Job Summary
- This pharmacist position is responsible for leading and managing both clinical and operational pharmacy services across the CoxHealth enterprise related to antimicrobial stewardship in an effort to optimize the use of antimicrobial agents. This role involves collaboration with medical staff, infection preventionists, and microbiologists to ensure use of evidence-based practices, to minimize resistance, and to improve patient outcomes.
- Key responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
- Monitor and review antimicrobial prescriptions to promote appropriate use and dosing.
- Provide clinical guidance to healthcare providers on the selection and management of antimicrobial therapies.
- Analyze and report antimicrobial utilization and resistance patterns.
- Educate medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff on best practices in antimicrobial use.
- Develop policies and protocols that align with institutional goals and regulatory guidelines (e.g., Joint Commission, CDC).
- Collaborate with infection prevention, microbiology, and IT teams to ensure data-driven decision-making.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, clinical consultations, and infection control meetings.
- Stay updated on emerging trends, guidelines, and resistance patterns in infectious diseases.

- Job Requirements
- Education
- Required: Missouri Pharmacist license, B.S. in Pharmacy required
- Preferred: Pharm.D. degree preferred
- Experience
- Required: Two years of residency, including a one-year specialty residency in infectious diseases / antimicrobial stewardship OR
- One year of general residency plus two years of current direct-patient care with an emphasis in infectious diseases / antimicrobial stewardship activities OR
- Five years of current direct-patient care experience with an emphasis in infectious diseases/antimicrobial stewardship activities
- Preferred: 1-2 years Antimicrobial management/stewardship experience preferred
- Skills
- Individual would spend approximately 60% of the time with patient-centered responsibilities and 40% completing committee and special project responsibilities.
- Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, other computer systems software, copiers, fax machines and other office equipment as necessary.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Active Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or expected within 3 years of starting the position
- BLS certification
- Licensed by Missouri Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacist or eligible for licensure by Missouri Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist and obtains licensure within 90 days of hire.
- **Eligibility for licensure requires submission of application for Pharmacy License at time of hire**
- Medication Therapy Services Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
