A world class industry leader is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Linux/UNIX for a 6 month contract with a strong possibility of extension and/or possible hire opportunity located in Irving, Texas.
Job Description:
- The Linux/UNIX system engineer will be responsible for supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Solaris build and automation for Enterprise infrastructure environment.
- This position will also be responsible for installation and maintenance of operating system utility tools, such as IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT), Symantec VCS, etc.
- The infrastructure engineer will work with managers and team leads in Platform Hosting Services (PHS) to support their needs of Linux and UNIX expertise, delivering technical services to the service level required by the company.
- Solid knowledge and experience with enterprise level concepts is required, including high availability, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, multipathing for HBAs and NICs, clustering at the OS level, and SAN/NAS technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Build servers from kickstart, scripts, VMware templates, and ISO images.
- Perform configuration, installation, migration, maintenance, administration, and tuning.
- Work with managed service provider to complete server build tasks.
- Write and troubleshoot scripts to automate system administration tasks.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement OS patches to meet security requirements and corporate standards.
- Develop standards and guidelines for the use of RHEL and Solaris servers for various data centers and MSP(s).
- Serve as second-tier support for enterprise infrastructure when needed.
- Translate business needs into actionable deliverables.
- Act as the liaison between IT verticals, vendors, the business, and the infrastructure teams.
- Develop and present business case and related ROI to senior management for justification of investment in upgrades or replacement of hardware/software.
- Perform patch management, upgrades, and installations.
- Perform proof of concept for new technologies, and work on technology and service improvement.
Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- 8-10 years' experience is required.
- Must be able to build multiple servers from kickstart, scripts, VMware templates, and ISO images.
- Must have strong scripting skills in one of ksh, csh, bash, Perl, or Python, and a strong background in troubleshooting of automation.
- Demonstrated expertise with enterprise infrastructure software, such as VERITAS Operations Manager, IBM License Metric Tool, Tivoli/IBM Endpoint Manager, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
