U-Haul Risk Management is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Injury Counselor for the handling and oversight of Workers’ Compensation claims. Under the direction of the Workers’ Compensation Program Manager, the successful candidate will investigate new injury claims, then coordinate with local U-Haul management, the injured Team Member, and the Third-Party Administrator to ensure the best possible outcomes. It is crucial this individual is compassionate, empathetic, and has a vested interest in helping team members recover as quickly as possible so they can return to their normal duties. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist injured team members to ensure they receive the appropriate level of medical car following on-the-job injuries
- Promptly investigate newly reported work-related injuries to determine compensability
- Maintain appropriate levels of communication with all involved parties
- Thoroughly document essential information on each reported incident in U-Haul claims management system
- Coordinate with local U-Haul management to facilitate Return to Work
- Manage all key components (including medical, indemnity, legal) of each claim to achieve the best possible outcome
- Successfully manage and complete special projects (as assigned)
- Continuously evaluate processes, procedures and tools and make recommendations to further enhance and/or improve
Skills, Requirements & Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of Worker’s Compensation required
- Experience working with RMIS platforms/diary systems required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Empathetic with a desire to help people
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to act and respond under pressure and do so with quality results and professionalism
- Handle sensitive/confidential information and/or data with a high degree of discretion.
- Positive, upbeat, inquisitive, with a “can-do” attitude
- Strong aptitude for technology
- Proficient with MS Office
