Job Overview: We are looking for a talented Instructional Designer with experience in mechanical and electrical concepts to create training content for a new apprentice program. This role involves developing a curriculum that introduces apprentices to skills in technical repair, mechanical systems, and electrical components. The ideal candidate has a solid background in instructional design within a technical or engineering environment and excels at distilling complex information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop instructional materials, including eLearning modules, technical guides, interactive simulations, and practical exercises focused on mechanical and electrical skills.
- Create structured course outlines, storyboards, and scripts that simplify technical topics such as equipment repair, mechanical assembly, electrical diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Apply adult learning theory to develop materials that support different learning styles, helping apprentices understand technical concepts and develop practical skills.
- Create interactive elements, diagrams, and simulations that reinforce hands-on learning and facilitate understanding of mechanical and electrical principles.
- Ensure all training content aligns with quality standards and meets the program's goals for technical skill development.
- Gather and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to iteratively improve instructional materials, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and relevance for apprentices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in instructional design, particularly in technical training for mechanical, electrical, or industrial applications.
- Demonstrated experience developing training for technical skills, including mechanical repair, electrical systems, or industrial equipment.
- Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate) and familiarity with LMS platforms.
- Strong knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Kirkpatrick) and adult learning principles.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to translate technical content into clear, user-friendly learning materials.
Preferred Skills:
- Background in mechanical or electrical engineering or relevant technical experience.
- Experience with multimedia tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) to develop diagrams and interactive components.
