+ Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board conferences involving HRH patients.
+ Participate in hospital committees as assigned.
Education and scholarly activities
+ Participate in external continuous education programs in the field of Pathology, including attendance at national annual meetings, such as CAP and the ASCP. Professional leave to attend external meetings is provided.
+ Identify and participate in continuing education courses and academic conferences available on site via digital, telephone and web based technologies.
+ Participate in translational research, QI and QC programs of the department, cancer center or other clinical trials for HRH patients as needed.
+ Provide distanced educational content to other faculty, residents or fellows if desired.
Academic Administrative Activities
+ Participation in departmental, school, and professional committees is rare but may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:
_Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire._
+ MD or DO degree, completed residency in pathology with board certification in both anatomic and clinical pathology. At least 5 years of experience practicing pathology full time as anatomic and clinical pathologist, preferably in complex community hospital (level 3 and above) or academic medical center. Candidates with subspecialty expertise garnered through fellowship or significant experience preferred.

The Department of Pathology employs ~150 faculty, including 4.5 FTE pathologists at HRH. We seek an experienced anatomic and clinical pathologist (to be hired at rank of Instructor to Clinical Associate Professor), to practice only at the HRH Laboratory. The work is broad within the field of pathology, inclusive of both AP/CP responsibilities in a complex community setting. Candidates currently in private/community settings as well as AP/CP active academic positions are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must be able to practice complex anatomic pathology inclusive of surgical and cyto-pathology. Faculty cover the practice Monday-Friday on site, as well as nights and weekends for emergencies and consultations. Three Pathologist Assistants (PAs) and one cytotechnologist are on site to assist with procedures. Gross examinations and sectioning of samples, frozen section processing are performed by experienced PAs under the supervision of a pathologist. Timely consultations with subspecialty experts at the University of Colorado are provided on an as needed basis. Immunohistochemical stains are performed on site with 24-hour turnaround time for most biopsy cases. Pathologists and the laboratory are backed up by subspecialty pathologists at UCH, connected by digital imaging as well as daily courier services. HRH opened in 2019 and is a rapidly growing, full-service hospital with 139 licensed beds in Fall 2023 featuring a birth center including C-section operating rooms and Level II NICU, an intensive care unit, numerous operating rooms, a Level III trauma center, emergency department, advanced cardiac services, and imaging center. Immediately adjacent to HRH is an affiliated 85,000-square-foot medical office building housing a two-story cancer center and medical offices. HRH partners with clinical faculty of the University of Colorado School of Medicine and community physicians to provide medical care to the South Denver metro community. HRH has a College of American Pathologists accredited Laboratory, staffed by CU School of Medicine/Department of Pathology faculty physicians. Attending pathologists oversee or perform ~ 500,000 clinical and ~12,000 anatomic pathology tests annually, including ~500 frozen sections, ~9,000 surgical pathology and 1,200 cytology cases (including fine needle aspiration biopsies) per year. Attending pathologists oversee or perform ~ 500,000 clinical and ~12,000 anatomic pathology tests annually, including ~500 frozen sections, ~9,000 surgical pathology and 1,200 cytology cases (including fine needle aspiration biopsies) per year. The HRH Laboratory performs low, medium and high complexity testing to support HRH patients and 12 affiliated outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgery centers and the Lone Tree Health Center. Our NAPBC accredited breast center and HRH's commitment to medical and surgical oncology care drive a high volume of cancer resection cases (higher than is typically seen in a community setting).
