JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Clinical Engineering Manager, the Instrument Sharpening Technician I is accountable for installations, repairs, regular maintenance and calibration of most classes of surgical instruments at the component level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
+ Performs installations, regular maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on assigned surgical instruments to ensure proper operation and function.
+ Performs all assignments in a competent and timely way according to current policies and procedures.
+ Installs, fixes and calibrates most classes of surgical instruments at a component level.
+ Performs planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections as assigned.
+ Uses diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced.
+ Helps in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories and supplies and inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer’s instructions.
+ Establishes and maintains files of literature for each piece of medical equipment, such as the manufacturers’ technical literature, reference standards, specifications and other documents necessary to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including TJC.
+ Accurately and legibly accounts for productive time using the departments computerized maintenance management systems.
+ Helps with the administrative record keeping responsibilities of the department, such as work orders, maintenance history records, PM and safety inspections, repairs, reports, and repair parts inventory; and any necessary reports to ensure accurate recording of activities for code and regulatory purposes.
+ Processes work requests and turns in completed work requests in a timely, results oriented and professional way.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
+ Instrument Sharpening training from industry.
+ Has and maintains a safe driving record.
+ Solid knowledge of computerized systems: recordkeeping, PM, work order systems, timekeeping, etc.
+ Have exceptional technical, mechanical, data-based and problem-solving skills.
+ Physically able to reach, raise, work atop, move along the ground or see and work in tight and/or dim places.
+ Able to interact and communicate with all staff and management in a positive and professional way.
+ Able to deal with difficult situations, resolve issues and concerns in a professional way.
+ Able to work and accomplish tasks in a stressful, fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
+ EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED equivalent
+ EXPERIENCE - 2 years of experience
+ CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION
+ Drivers License (TXDL): If moving from out of state must obtain valid TX DL within 90 days of hire.
