About the Job
The Equipment Tech is responsible for maintaining inventory of GI supplies, equipment, and specialized instruments. This includes the decontamination, reprocessing, and quality control associated with all GI endoscopes/colonoscopes, and special equipment. The mission of this role is to demonstrate competence in the specific Equipment/Instrument Tech responsibilities to provide age-appropriate care and service to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adult patients.

Responsibilities:- Coordinates and performs decontamination, reprocessing and sterilization of GI instruments per approved standards and protocols.
- Orders, maintains, and controls stock and on-going inventory of GI clinical supplies and equipment.
- Ensures that all equipment is properly stored, cleaned, disinfected between uses per standard procedures.
- Operates Steris I reprocessor according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Coordinates maintenance and repair of equipment with biomed/vendor including notification of program supervisor.
- Assists in orientation of new staff to reprocessing of instruments and equipment (new and existing) and provides use & care in-services.
- Acts as equipment and instrument liaison between Main OR, Surgery Center, Central Processing, Central Distribution, and Biomedical Engineering.
- Supports anesthesia room turn-over functions in GI procedure rooms.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reports immediately to Equipment, Instruments and Operations, and Purchasing Coordinator and then Program Supervisor.
Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Education:
- High school graduate
- Computer skills
- Ability to understand and apply infection control concepts
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Ability to function independently with a high level of accountability.
Minimul Physical Requirements
- occasionally (0-33%): Lifts up to 25 lbs, Move or reposition patients with assistance of another person, Push or pull video equipment carts
- constantly (67-100%): Seeing, reading, hand dexterity
