JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for greeting incoming patients, recording their personal details, gathering medical histories, and obtaining any health insurance information they have. Responsible for answering incoming calls, verifying health insurance data and performing clerical work such as filing and faxing.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED; Associates or Bachelors in a human services field preferred
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in patient intake or medical office administration
- Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines
- Strong affinity for customer service
- Working knowledge of office management and filing systems
- Demonstrable working knowledge of Medicaid and non-Medicaid reimbursement requirements including eligibility for service, pre-authorization processes and Medicaid/managed care outpatient therapy services requirements
- Excellent organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills
- Proficient computer literacy (MS Office)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously; possess the ability to adjust to constantly changing workloads
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak multiple languages is a plus
- Exemplary and dedicated work ethic and professional at all times
- Adheres to company policies, including the facility dress code and appears professional at all times
- Ability to communicate effectively by telephone
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates incoming requests and referrals, responds to inquiries, processes referrals
- Completes all admissions paperwork and enters it digitally; gathers required clinical and demographic data from patient and sources
- Verifies medical insurance coverage and benefits for each patient
- Reviews referrals, verifies all information and initiates the intake process
- Maintains a list of referral sources
- Schedules appointments
- Answers phone and email inquiries
- Addresses any patient complaints or concerns; demonstrates excellent customer service skills and the ability to calm patients or clients who may be distraught and make decisions based upon anticipated outcomes
- Performs clerical work, such as filing, copying, and faxing
- Prepares and maintains patient charts
- Complies with the regulations and policies of the facility
- Attends regular interdisciplinary team meetings for purposes of identifying new admissions and recertifications
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor
