Overview:Under direction, to perform work providing interfaces for disparate applications throughout the hospital to ensure database integrity across systems. - Works with hospital users and vendors to determine their needs in order to develop detailed interface specifications.
- Identifies any application modifications that may be required on either system being interfaced to accommodate the data needs of the users and communicates with the appropriate applications analysts, hospital or vendor.
- In conjunction with vendors, develops and implements the communications clients required in order to establish communications, via an interface engine, between two systems.
- Develops detailed scenarios and creates a plan to test interface according to specifications to ensure the integrity of data sets sent to and received from the interfaced systems.
- The test plan should include mechanisms to be used to verify each scenario and to ensure appropriate charging, if applicable.
- Develops project plans to ensure that projects are implemented within established timeframes.
- Coordinates with management to ensure the project timeframes for interfaces coincide with house-wide information systems project timelines.
- Provides appropriate documentation of all interfaces in accordance with defined standards.
- Monitors interface performance and error logs and takes actions for corrections and/or improvement as needed.
- Experience with scripting and development of the communication portions of interfaces, including TCP/IP is preferred.
- Previous experience with an HCIS, and with interface engines.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills are required.
- Ability to use cognitive reasoning to analyze, diagnose, and resolve problems.
- Must be highly organized and analytical.
- Must be able to interpret systems documentation and follow detailed instructions.
- Must be highly motivated and exhibit the interpersonal skills necessary to achieve results through coordinating efforts with others in a collaborative manner.
- Familiarity with hospital clinical and revenue systems, relational databases, HL7, TCP/IP, and programming languages.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
EDUCATION
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field is required.
- Bachelors Computer Science Required
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in Information Technology or a closely related field is required.
- Post High School work experience in Information Technology or a closely related field may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement on a year for year basis.
- Certification in Epic Bridges is required within one year of hire.
- Experience with scripting and development of the communication portions of interfaces, including TCP/IP is preferred.
- Previous experience with an EMR, and with interface engines.
